When a young boy and his wise Norwegian grandmother discover that witches are not just the stuff of fairy tales but are living amongst us, they find themselves caught up in a terrifying plot. Disguised as ordinary women, witches despise children above all else, and the fearsome Grand High Witch has gathered them together to unleash her most wicked plan yet – to rid the world of children forever.

After an unexpected encounter leaves the boy transformed into a mouse, he and his grandmother must summon all their courage, wit and determination to outsmart the witches before it's too late.

Character Breakdown

BOY : playing age 10 an orphan who lives with his Grandmother. Brave, stoic and clever Will need to manage a puppet

GRANDMOTHER: Playing age 60’s – wonderfully caring, a great storyteller, and super cool. She knows all about the witches and is ready to take the fight to them

EVENT MANAGER/DEPUTY HIGH WITCH: playing age 30’s - the epitome of efficiency and the Grand High Witch’s biggest fan

GRAND HIGH WITCH: playing age – 30-50 – appears as beautiful and charming but then becomes the most evil witch of all – has a German accent 

BRUNO JENKINS: playing age 10 – very rude, very spoilt and loves food. Will need to do puppet work

MRS JENKINS: playing age 30’s-40’s – adores her son Bruno and believes he can do no wrong, rude and obnoxious to everyone 

MR JENKINS – 30’s-40’s a successful business man he is as obnoxious as his wife

A group of actors (any age) to play the witches, waiters, and chefs – will need to be able to play with accents, puppets and slapstick humour – and manage several roles. They are essential to creating Roald Dahl’s world.
